Solar Control

Solar Control

We've had our solar PV panels installed for over a year now and they've been working well. The same cannot be said of the battery installation. Our setup is pretty standard. Solax X1 Hybrid 3.7kW Inverter12 solar PV panels totalling 3.6kW2 4.5kW Solax Triple Power batteriesOur inverter has stopped talking to the meter (which was giving incorrect data anyway, though it has now been replaced) which means that the batteries are essentially useless at present :-( While...

Blog

I've finally got round to moving my blog to Ghost though the change has not been simple and I think images may not be fully working yet. I'm still using the default theme though I do plan to change at some point. Hopefully it will make things easier to read for people on mobile devices. Let me know :-)...

extra! extra! read all about it!

Over the recent few months I’ve spent a fair bit of time working on projects.apache.org. It’s an idea that I had stored away in my memory for a very long time and one that I strongly believed in. Now that it’s almost complete I still have trouble believing that it’s actually happened. The basic concept, like many of the best ones, is very simple – create a set of indexes and pages that allow people...

police state

The next step towards the UK becoming a police state was taken today when the commons voted for the ID legislation. It represenets a remarkable abuse of democracy when over 60% of the public are opposed to such legislation, but it will be law before long. This one act has more potential to change the fabric of british life than any other introduced this decade. Taken in isolation it’s not too drastic, but when you consider the UK has...

At the crossroads ...

The BeOS community is certainly undergoing a change at the present time and I’m not really sure where it will lead or if it’s for the better or worse in the long term. What I am reasonably sure is that it’s going to lead to pain in the short term for a lot of people. What is this change? Money. The community has suddenly started to get a smell of it again and many within it are...

The end is nigh

Apparently yT has private copies (repositories) of some “open source” projects. They seem to be (according to the story I heard) porting in changes made to the public repositories but not returning the favour. This sort of behaviour sucks. Do we really want to play this game? Most people get involved in open source projects to contribute to a project that interests them. They gain a feeling of respect and that’s one of the key things that keeps them...

Where is Zeta going?

So, recently I’ve had a chance to look at the first offering from Ubuntu and know a few of their developers. Their approach is very different to Zeta, but it has brought to a head my feelings about Zeta. If there is a heavy dose of sarcasm in what follows, I make no apologies. If I read one more story about how Bernd has flown here or there to attend this meeting or that meeting I’m going to...
