One of teh things that I do from time to time is copy a CD. Finding a need to do this I found it wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped it might be under gnome. After a web search I found X-CD-Roast. Installed it via the ports and then ran it. All worked well and copying the cd turned out to be very straightforward.

When ripping my CD’s using Grip I’ve experienced a few issues with the quality. The system isn’t yet as stable as it could be and running the kernel without WITNESS results in very short periods between hard reboots, so the problems aren’t much of a surprise. Using X-CD-Roast seems to result in much better ripping so I’ve written a small script to convert the ripped wav files into mp3’s. This is a bit of a hack but works well!
